Does this look familiar???
The ‘Old Hospital’ Peace Corps Training Center in Hilo, Hawaii!
Aloha!! In honor of the 50th Anniversary of the founding of the Peace Corps, a group of RPCVs is organizing a reunion for people who trained in Hilo (and any others who are interested.) Various country groups are also organizing their own events during that time. And Malaysia VIII (aka Sabah/Sarawak V) is getting into the spirit. About time, eh? We’ve talked about it for years, but now somebody else is doing the leg work and all we have to do is make our reservations!!
Schedule of Events:
-November 15th - Kona Party hosted by local rpcv’s
-November 16th - Welcome BBQ in Kona at Outrigger Hotel at $65.00 per person.
All the following in Hilo, Hawaii:
-November 18th – Welcome Party at Wailoa State Park, hosted by local RPCV’s (evening)
-November 19th - Dedication Ceremony for moving JFK Monument from old training
center at Rainbow Falls to University of Hawaii, Hilo campus (afternoon)
Cocktails following dedication, followed by Dinner at UHH campus (during dinner
will show the film, and exhibit a “Peace Corps Overseas Room”, and a Silent
Auction of items from the respective countries). (If anyone has a nice momentum
from their respective country and willing to donate it for our Silent Auction,
please let us know soon). Cost of the dinner will be $50.00 per person.
-November 20th – Tour of former Peace Corps Training sites and villages (3-4 hrs)
and Farewell BBQ at Wailoa State Park

Bill Sakovich and his committee have arranged some special rates for us at the following hotels (be sure and identify yourself as a former Peace Corps Volunteer when registering):
1.Hilo Hawaiian, a little nicer hotel, $89.00. Contact is Linda Nako, 808-935-9361, or www.castleresorts.com. She has offered this special rate, less than the kaamaina rate, but we must go through her.
2.The Hilo Seaside is more of a kaamaina, local hotel, and $69.00. Contact Rochelle Kagawa, GM, manager@hiloseasidehotel.com or (800) 560-5557.
3.Kilauea Military Camp (now open to all), at the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, has lots of little cottages but at the Volcano. The contact is Denise at 808-967-8333 or www.kmc_volcano.com.
Several of us are opting for the Hilo Seaside, as it may be a little more low-key, besides being cheaper. Please contact me at: Donna (Sprague) McCarthy, semporna@mindspring.com, (858) 488-6575. Really looking forward to hearing from you!
